Nigeria’s Falconets made a bright start to their campaign at the FIFA U20 Women World Cup in Costa Rica by beating France 1-0.
Flourish Sebastian, in the 85th minute scored the goal that consigned the European champions to defeat after they had a goal disallowed in the 79th minute.
Mercy Idoko won the ball in a midfield duel and she made a pass into the path of Sebastian who shook off her markers with ease and she had the luxury of picking her spot before slotting the ball pass the French keeper Petiteau.
Sebastian said after in a tweet that the team was blessed to have won their first game, adding that they hope to continue with the winning streak.
The Falconets will play again on August 14 against South Korea 9.00pm Nigerian time. South Korea beat Canada 2-0 in their opening game.
