Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala will have the chance to win football’s prestigous awards after she was nominated for the 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or awards.
This is the first time any African woman player would be making the list of nominees.
Oshoala who had an excellent 2022 season for Barcelona will contest for the honors with Ada Hegerberg of Lyon, Millie Bright- Chelsea, Marie-Antoinette Katoto (PSG), Trinity Rodman (Washington Spirit), Selma Bacha (Lyon), Fridolina Rolfo (Barcelona), Vivianna Miedema (Arsenal), Lucy Bronze (Barcelona), Sam Kerr (Chelsea), Christiane Endler (Lyon), Lena Oberdorf (Wolfsburg), Kadidatou Diani (PSG), Catarina Macario (Lyon), Alexia Putellas (Barcelona), Alexandra Popp (Wolfsburg), Aitana Bonmati (Barcelona), Wendie Renard (Lyon), Alex Morgan (San Diego Wave) and Beth Mead (Arsenal).
Oshoala despite being sidelined by injury for eight weeks scored 20 goals from 19 games in the Spanish women league, she emerged a joint top scorer with Geyse Ferreira as Barcelona won the league title for the 2022 season.
The Super Falcons former captain played just one game at 2022 African Women Cup of Nations held in June. She couldn’t continue in the opening game in which South Africa beat Nigeria 2-1.
That notwithstanding Oshoala won the CAF African player of the year in July. She became the African woman to win five titties.
The 66th Ballon D’or ceremony will take place on the 17th of October at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France.
