Two soldiers accused of killing an Islamic scholar Sheikh Goni Aisami on August 19 in Yobe State have been dismissed by the Nigerian Army.
The soldiers serving at the 241 Recce Battalion, Nguru, Yobe State, according to the Acting Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Abdullahi Osabo, have been found guilty on two-count charge; namely: failure to perform military duties; and conduct to prejudice of service discipline. The suspects had their ranks reduced from lance corporal to private before their complete dismissal.
The suspects John Gabriel and Adamu Gideon who are currently with the Yobe State Police command were alleged to have murdered Sheikh in cold blood. The cleric was travelling between Nguru and Gashua in Yobe State when he stopped to give the two suspects a ride. The dismissed soldiers allegedly shot him dead at some point in the journey.
