The Economic Community of West African States leaders forum last weekend mark theit annual ‘ECOWAS Day’ with fanfare in Lagos.
The event held at the Ojez Railway Recreation Club Ebute Meta, Lagos witnessed various activities including traditional and cultural displays by member states in attendance. They include host country Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana and Senegal.The Leaders forum was formed in 2008 with the aim of fostering more regional cooperation in terms of trade, cultural exchange and more regional integration.
Speaking at the event the president of the ECOWAS leaders forum, Frank Ekow Quaye of Ghana said the main aim of the forum tagged ECOLEAD, was to forge more unity among the people of West Africa and they had the backing of the Nigerian government and security services.
“Previously all the Ecowas Nations were just on their own and we thought it wise that there was a need for us all to come together.
“Living in unison, does not break unity, does not break strength, so all the leaders of the various communities came together and project unity and love, form businesses together and work for our people gain from living in the region.”
“We are looking forward to a bigger festival coming up and that is the ECOFEST. We are putting our heads together to bring more communities so that we can have a wonderful festival.
