Something bigger than ‘Ikebe’ coming your way, Sunny Nneji assures fans

Modern highlife music maestro Sunny Nneji is set to make a comeback to the ever busy Nigerian musical scene after a long break from limelight.
Nneji who rocked his fans with hits like Ikebe, Face me I face you, Oruka, Tolotolo and Happy Birthday, said during the weekend that he is putting finishing touches to latest work and would soon be out.
“We should be looking forward to another hit bigger than Ikebe,” Nneji told Mainland Metro News.
“Ikebe is Ikebe; that song is in a class of its own and so we are doing another song that would be in class of its own too. By God grace.
“We are almost done with the recordings of the album…sometime this year it would be out.”
He added that the effort is a blend of his upbeat highlife and a touch of current trends in musical releases by Nigerian artists.
“It would be the original Sunny Nneji with a touch of what is happening today.”
He refused to be drawn into making comparisons with what went down back in the days and the present day where almost every beat coming out of the studio has similarities.
“There is no basis for comparison,  I don’t like comparing art. Because Art is determined and influenced by what is happening at that particular point in time.
“It is not what happened in the 80′, 90′ and early 2000 that is happening now. Everything happening now in our lives is influenced by what is happening currently.
“Artists are not working with materials from space. They are working with what is available to them, they are mirroring what is happening in the society currently.”
