Following the decision by the Academic Staff Union of Universities to shift gears in its six months long strike the Federal Ministry of Education has proposed a meeting with Pro-Chancellors and Chairmen of Councils and the Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities.
Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu said a meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday September 6 with the Pro-Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors chart a way forward.
On Monday, ASUU president Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke said negotiations have broken down with the Federal government and therefore the strike is on indefinitely. He said in a statement: “ We observed with regret that the Union had experienced a lot of deceit of the highest level in the last five and half years as the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) engaged ASUU in fruitless and unending negotiation without a display of utmost fidelity.”
