Athletics Federation of Nigeria president Tonobok Okowa was left fuming after he found out that a member of the Nigeria women 4x100m at the Commonwealth Games tested positive to prohibited substances.
Okowa was livid, because he was kept in the dark on the development until he was called by Mainland Metro News to confirm if Grace Nwaokocha tested positive for drugs. In a fit of rage he boarded the next available flight to Abuja to get answers from the AFN secretary-general.
“It was shocking news to the AFN president and he was even more angry that he was not told about it,” said a source.
“He was very distraught because he saw it as a blow to his effort to run a clean federation. He had to rush to Abuja on Friday.”
“He is not happy that his authority is being undermined by some individuals in the sports ministry.”
Nwaokocha is now provisionally suspended by the World Athletics Integrity Unit until her B sample proves she was innocent of spiking her system with ‘Ostarine and Ligandrol.’ If the B sample confirms the positive test Nigeria would lose the 4x100m gold.
