Former Chelsea midfielder Flourent Malouda has described the sacking of Thomas Tuchel as brutal.
The German coach had arrived the team’s Cobham training ground Wednesday morning to review the Champions League loss to Dinamo Zagbred the club’s third consecutive away loss, but he received a phone call that totally shocked him. The conversation with the club owner Todd Boehly lasted 10 minutes. The German coach begged to be given a second chance to turn things around. But Boehly did not back-track from his decision to sack the Champions League winner.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Malouda said: “It has been a successful era, I am talking about the coach. I have witnessed a lot of finals and a lot of finals won, that shows you the level of performance you have to give. You don’t have time, this is the reality. It is very brutal. That is my first impression.
“I am curious about what comes next but also worried. We are talking about a top coach who made a huge impact but it is like it didn’t last. It is not about who is guilty, it is about where we are going next.”
Meanwhile Chelsea have line up a number of options to replace Tuchel. Brighton coach Graham Potter is number on the list, others include Mauricio Pochettino former Tottenham and Paris St Germain coach.
Perhaps former Chelsea defender John Terry spoke the mind of the club by tweeting:
“How good is Graham Potter? I love how Brighton play and he has to be one of the best young managers around. Ticks every box for me.”
