Iyorchia Ayu will remain national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party after the National Executive Council (NEC) gave him a vote of confidence.
All 397 memebers of the NEC during their meeting in Abuja on Thursday voted for Ayu to continue as chairman of the party.
Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike and his allies had made Ayu resignation a condition for them to agree to a compromise in the lingering fued that engulfed the party after the presidential primary which brought Abubakar Atiku as flag-bearer and Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate.
Earlier in th day Senator Walid Jibirn who Board of Trustee (BoT) chairman of the party, had resigned with the hope that it would assuage the fueding members.
“I am stepping down as the chairman of BoT. I am stepping down to make it easier for all of us,” he said at a BoT and National Executive Committee meeting on Thursday in Abuja.
