The stage is set for another semifinal clash between two most entertaining women’s clubs in Nigeria, as Delta Queens face FC Robo in the battle for the final ticket at the ongoing Betsy Obaseki Women’s football tournament in Benin City, Edo State.
On Monday, Delta Queens secured their semifinal ticket by beating Royal Queens 2-1. The victory set the Asaba-based club against FC Robo in tomorrow’s semifinal match.
When both teams met in the semifinal of the Women AITEO Cup in Abuja last year, Delta Queens defeated FC Robo 2-0.
Delta Queens led by Coach Blankson is being tipped to carry the day, going by the morale and financial support the girls are enjoying from Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The second semifinal match is between Edo Queens and Nasarawa FC.
The Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) has recorded some impressive results since the competition started last weekend.
Edo Queens, on Monday, sailed through to the quarterfinals by crushing Heartland Queens of Owerri 4-0 with Eunice Godwin netting a hattric. Heartland FC’s Kelechi Orji scored an own goal.
Godwin’s three goals came in the 40th, 44th and 46th minutes of the match.
On their part, FC Robo of Lagos hit six goals past their rival, Confluence Queens.
Shukurat Oladipo opened the campaign for Robo FC in the 19th minute, disrupting the usually compact Confluence Queens of Lokoja.
Rukayat Oladiti and Nwokodia Favour scored the second and third goals in the 42nd and 44th minute, ending the first half 3-0 in favour of Robo FC.
Fifty-five minutes into the second half, Kehinde Akinwande scored for the Lagos-based Robo FC before Taiwo Lawal pulled in her brace in the 59th and 77th minutes of the match to humble Confluence Queens.
Nasarawa Amazons FC beat Naija Ratels 3-2. Dooshima Tarnum scored the ladt goal for Nasarawa side in the 73rd minute.
The tournament, which is Nigeria’s only pre-season women football championship, is a brainchild of Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki.
