Ten out of the 119 Princes that applied to succeed the departed Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi have been short-listed by the Oyo kingmakers.
From the ten would emerge the new Alaafin and the task of selecting the new king would fall on the Oyomesi traditional council of the ancient town.
According to a statement by director of media and publicity to the Alaafin of Oyo, Bode Durojaiye, the Oyomesi has interview the ten Princes and would consult with the Ifa Oracle on the next step forward.
“Whoever emerges among the shortlisted aspirants will be the candidate and the next Alaafin of Oyo.
“The state government is not only aware but carried along in all our proceedings before, during and after the interview period. The state government is ably represented by the Chairperson of the Atiba Local Government and some officials of the council,” Durojaiye said.
