Edo State Sports Commission chairman, Yusuf Alli will provide an electronic timing device for the Princess Mabel Madojiemu Athletics Championships starting September 29 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City.
The former African long jump champion whose 8.27m record remained unbroke for 30 years running made the gesture because of his desire to have the Championships meant for U-15 run according to world standards.
“It is part of my contribution towards the success of the championships.
” You never know if any of the kids can break a record and so if there is no acceptable timing device the efforts are of no use to us,” said Alli.
The championships is open only to schools in Edo State and according to organisers, all arrangements are in top gear as the schools are itching to participate in the meet meant to catch them young.
The meet sponsor and former junior athlete herself Princess Mabel Madojiemu said she hopes to expand the competition to other States in the future based on the availability of resources.
