Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro said midfielder Wilfred Ndidi had to be sent back to Leicester City for examination as a precautionary measure. Ndidi pulled out of the team’s training in Constantine, where the Super Eagles are training ahead of their international friendly against the Desert Foxes of Algeria next Tuesday. He joined the injury team list which includes Victor Osimhen and Umar Sadiq as well as Leon Balogun, Ahmed Musa, Emmanuel Dennis, Henry Onyekuru, and Samuel Chukwueze.
However, the Eagles bench will now rely on Alex Iwobi, Richard Onyedika and Fred Onyeka to marshall the midfield in the absence of Ndidi who had not played under new coach Poseiro, because of injury problems.
Poseiro said: “Because we have that connection with Leicester [City], their fitness coach told our fitness coach that he [Ndidi] complained in the last match [against Tottenham Hotspur]. “When Ndidi came, he did training without intensity, a small training but with conditions, but he kept feeling something in his hamstring. “After yesterday’s session, I thought it was better not to use him. I don’t want to go use a player in a friendly match only to see him sustain more injury. It is for that reason he went back to Leicester for him to recover faster.”
