Legendary England striker Gary Lineker has urged England coach Gareth Southgate to play Fikayo Tomori instead of Harry Maguire.
The Manchester United centre back was at fault for two of the goals England conceded in their game against Germany on Monday and according to Lineker, Tomori who plays for AC Milan would be an “excellent choice,” for the England centre back.
Southgate did not field Tomori for England games during the international break. He was on the bench against Italy last Friday and also against Germany on Monday. His choices have caused outrage in England and Italy, considering that Tomori has been playing a key role for the Rossoneri while Maguire has lost his starting spot at Old Trafford.
Tomori, 24, joined Milan on an initial loan deal from Chelsea in January 2021 and the Rossoneri made his move permanent six months later for circa €29m.
The English centre-back has made 71 competitive appearances with the Diavoli, scoring two goals and was included in the Serie A Team of the Season for 2021-22, Milan’s first title-winning campaign in 11 years.
