High demands by Napoli made Manchester United lost interesting in pursuing a swap deal involving Cristiano Ronaldo and Victor Osimhen.
There were expectations of a deadline deal for the two players to go opposite ways, but according to reports by Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports, United pulled out of the negotiations because Napoli wanted $100m and also pay Ronaldo’s wages why he is at Napoli on loan.
United coach Eric ten Hag rebuffed the deal because he wanted to keep Ronaldo and also buy Osimhen later in the future on a stand-alone deal. Besides, the United management felt the Napoli demands were ridiculous.
Ronaldo was linked with an exit from Old Trafford throughout the summer. The 37-year-old wanted to leave the Red Devils just one season after joining them and this could have been due to the fact that the English club failed to qualify for the Champions League this season.
Even though the Portuguese forward stayed at the club this season, he has been off the boil this season. Ronaldo has really struggled to get going and Erik ten Hag has shown a tendency to prefer other players to the target man.
