The out-gone board of the Nigeria Football Federation has been ordered by the Sports Ministry to give an account of the N15b intervention funds released to it by the Federal government for the past seven years.
This is just as the former president Amaju Pinnick failed to hand over to the new president Ibrahim Gusau a week after he was voted in at the elective congress in Benin City.
It was gathered that a memo signed by the Sports Ministry Permanent Secretary Ismaila Abubakar to the NFF General Secretary, requested that the NFF present all detailed retirements of the funds doled to it by the Federal government. Including the N1.5billion given to it to run the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where the Super Eagles failed to progress beyond the round of 16, the worst result the team ever posted in the tournament in recent times.
“They have not bothered to retire all the intervention funds and other monies the Government has released to them all these years,” said a sports ministry official.
Meanwhile Mr. Gusau is like lame duck as no handover notes detail the current status of the NFF is in his possession. The NFF according to reports is swimming in debts and there is no documents on who is being owed or has been paid.
