Azurfa Lois John has denied ever been proposed marriage by the terrorists commader who stormed an Abuja-Kaduna train in March 2022, taking about 73 hostages.
The 21-year-old Lois John was among the last batch of 23 victims who regained their freedom last week. In August detained terrorists negotiator, Tukur Mamu had claimed that the commader wanted to marry her. However, breathing the air for freedom, Miss Lois John told her rescuesers that there was never such a proposal or contact with the commander.
According to Usman Yusuf who is Secretary of the Chief of Defence Staff seven-man negotiating committee, the commander in question also debunked the claim he wanted to forcibly marry Miss Lois John.
Prof. Yusuf who was speaking during an interview on VOA hausa service said the commander on the eve of the hostage release, even rejected the claim. As it turned out Mamu was only trying to stampede the government.
“Since 29 March 2022, when the committee started working, we told the insurgents that it was wrong to hold pregnant women, children hostage.
“Among the 23 hostages was a two-year-old girl. When she was abducted she was not up to two years. We told them it was not proper to even have grievances with the government,” Prof. Yusuf.
