Nollywood producer Olajide Kareem a.k.a Seun Egbegbe is breathing the air of freedom after he was discharged by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
Though the presiding judge Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo found him guilty of one the charges against him and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment, however, the judge allowed Mr. Kareem to walk free, because he has been under detention since 2017, thus exceeding the sentence passed on him.
The trial began in 2017, and it was not until Tuesday October 11 the case was done with. Justice Oguntoyinbo found him guilty of count 19 of the 44 count charge. She said the prosecuting team failed to produce evidence and witnesses on counts 4, 19 and 44.
The judge also freed the four other defendants.
The 45-year-old controversial figure in the Yoruba movie industry, was arraigned by the police for alleged fraud involving N39m; $90,000 and £12,550, N39,098,100, respectively.
Egbegbe, who once managed Fuji artistes, Wale Ayinde, Tekoma and Pasuma, was accused of swindling BDC operators.
