Though striker Victor Osimhen scored a goal on his return for Napoli in their Champions League tie against Ajax on Wednesday, but coach Luciano Spalletti said he was not yet fit.
Osimhen who was sidelined by injury for six weeks missing five games came from the bench in the second half to score the fourth in their 4-1 defeat of Ajax at the Diego Maradona Stadium. He had missed a clear goal.
“We didn’t know where Osimhen was (in terms of readiness), as he did a few training (sessions) with us, so it was unknown. He didn’t work for the team on defence because he was not in condition,” the Italian tactician said.
“He has to play more with the team. He missed an easy goal, but this is one. He is not very good at dribbling with his teammates, but for us, he is an important player, and 50 minutes is a lot.”
In Osimhen’s absence Napoli had carried on well, they remained unbeaten in nine games. His return is a boost to Spalletti’s attacking options.
