Nigeria’s top music acts Burna Boy, Wizkids and Tems are in the shortlist of awardees in the 50th American Music Awards billed for November 21, 2022.
According to Music Africa reports other Nigerians shortlisted include Fireboy and Ckay who will now vie for the newly-introduced Favourite Afrobeats Artist category in recognition of the genre’s groundbreaking impact in the US and around the globe.
Beyonce, Drake, Adele, Harry Styles are shortlisted for the Artist of the year.
Propped by her effort on Wizkid’s global hit ‘Essence’, Tems leads the African contingent into the awards after securing nomination in three other categories, namely, Collaboration of the Year, Favourite Hip Hop Song and Favorite R&B Song.
Wizkid managed nods in two categories, the other being Favourite R&B Song.
Globally, this year’s most-nominated acts include Latin artist Bad Bunny with eight, followed by US singers Beyoncé and Taylor Swift with six nominations each. English pop stars Adele and Harry Styles, and Canada’s The Weeknd are next with five nominations apiece.
The 2022 AMAs will air globally in more than 120 countries and territories.
