Brazil striker Richarlison’s World Cup “dream” is in doubt after he suffered a calf injury in Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Everton Saturday.
Richarlison, 25, was substituted in the 52nd minute and later seen on crutches.
He is set to have a scan to determine the extent of the injury but has already been ruled out of Wednesday’s game at Manchester United.
“It’s kind of hard to say because it’s close to the realisation of my dream,” a tearful Richarlison told ESPN Brazil.
“I’ve already suffered a similar injury to this but I hope it can heal as soon as possible.
“The last time when I was at Everton, I was out of action for about two months.
“I know it’s hard to talk at this moment, but let’s see, I’ll recover. I have a scan on Monday but even walking hurts. I have to stay positive if I want to go to Qatar.”
Brazil will name their World Cup squad at the start of November. Their first game of the tournament in Qatar is on 24 November against Serbia.
Richarlison has scored twice in 13 matches for Tottenham since his £60m move from Everton in July.
“For sure against Manchester United he’s out,” said Spurs manager Antonio Conte after Saturday’s game. “He felt something in his calf and he won’t be available.
“I think he needs a bit of time to recover. It’s a pity because we are talking about a player who gives us a lot of quality but is also strong and improves our intensity.
“He will have an MRI scan to understand it tomorrow, we hope it is not serious.” BBC
