Nigeria’s U-23 team was forced to a 1-1 draw by their Tanzania counterparts in the first leg Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifying match Saturday in Dar es Salam.
The game was decided by penalty goals on each box and the Nigeria team must now finish off their opponents in the second leg billed for the Lekan Salami Stadium next week to qualify for the next round of the U-23 African Cup of Nations in Morocco, from where the three African representatives for the 2024 Olympics would be picked.
Success Makanjuola slotted in the first goal of the match for Nigeria in the 29th minute, after Qudus Akanni was brought down in the Tanzania area. Then after they created chances which the Eagles couldn’t finished off.
In the second half Tanzania looked for the equaliser, coming close with two shots hitting the crossbar. But in the 74th minute the hosts had a penalty of their own, which they converted to keep the game level.
