Manchester City pipped Leicester City 1-0 at the King Power Stadium to move to the top of the Premier League table, but coach Pep Guardiola admitted that it was not an easy match for City to win.
Leicester, who found their form after struggling in their first four games of the season, had their winning streak cut short by a lone strike by Kevin de Bruyne with a free kick that curled into the top corner.
Brendan Rodgers’ men responded well to the pressure, creating plenty of chances of their own. Youri Tielemans’ effort was tipped away by Ederson in the visitors’ goal.
Speaking to LeicestershireLive, Guardiola said: “In the shape Leicester played with the five at the back, the four in the middle plus [Jamie] Vardy dropping, it was difficult. The best I can say in this type of game is don’t get frustrated.
“You can concede transitions with [Harvey] Barnes and Vardy, with the quality from [James] Maddison. After you concede a goal, it would be a hill to climb that would not be possible. That’s why you can’t get frustrated, and not concede free-kicks and corners to Maddison.
“The last 15 minutes, with [Patson] Daka inside and Kelechi [Iheanacho] inside, and they changed the rhythm, and we were playing in a rhythm that was not good. We won, but with one free-kick or one corner or one situation, and you can draw the game.
“But we defended well in general. It’s a massive victory because Leicester away is always tough. We arrived here at the best moment here for them. There’s no space because they are in the 18-yard box and behind is the keeper, Vardy is with the midfield four.”
