Nigeria’s U-23 team beat their Tanzania counterparts 2-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium Ibadan to qualify for the next round of the African Cup of Nations.
The Olympic Eagles will tackle Guinea next in the last qualifying match leading to the U-23 AFCON in Morocco 2023.
After a goalless first half Timileyin Oguniyi calmed the nerves of the Eagles, with his 62nd minute strike and in the 69th minute Success Makanjuola scored from the penalty spot to double the lead.
The Tanzanians fought hard to get back into the game, but the Eagles defence stood their ground seeing that the scores remained the way it was. The Eagles moved to next round a 3-1 aggregate score.
Nigeria will entertain Guinea on March 20, 2023 and the second will visit Conakry for the second leg March 27. A win for the Olympic Eagles will see them battle for the 2024 Olympic Games at the AFCON tournament in Morocco, where they might need to finish in the top three.
Meanwhile the team will collect N1m from Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa. He had promised N500,000 for each goal scored by the team in the qualifier against Tanzania.
