Preparations are gathering speed for this year’s Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon billed for November 26 in Warri Delta State and one of new innovations is the corporate relay race.
Already organisations and institutions have registered their interest to participate in the contest meant to be a fun run and also to foster good relationships between the members of the community and the corporate and private organisations operating in and around the Warri and Effurun environment.
“It is a novel idea we are introducing to expand participation in the Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon,” said Mrs. Joyce Bozimo WEPM Chief organiser.
“Of course it is also very in line with our intentions to bring members of the community together to live in peace and harmony. We have corporate organisations, Institutions, security forces and even churches that have shown interest to participate and it is going to be fun.”
According to the coordinator of the corporate relay race Eddie Ukodie, it is a straight forward 10km race and each team will present five runners who will cover 2km each from the starting point to the finish line. At every 2km covered by the team runner, the baton would be exchanged to the next runner.
“We are expecting a good turn out.
“And we are making all the arrangements to have a hitch-free competition,” said Ukodie
Meanwhile registration for the individual races is on by both top Nigerian long distance runners and athletes in the locality.
