Following public outcry over the sexual harrassment of a police officer by her colleague in Osun State, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has ordered an inquiry.
A video of Olorunsogo Bamidele, a female inspector, where she complained that she was beaten up by a Divisional Crime Officer Ajayi Mathew went viral prompting the IG to call on the Osun Police Commissioner Olaleye to investigate the case.
“What is my offence? He started beating me to the extent, he stripped me. Look at my chest, arms, everywhere, there are injuries. He’s Ajayi Matthew,” Bamidele said in the video
“He asked me out, that I should befriend him. I said no, that I’m a married woman.”
“He started blackmailing me, claiming that he’s my lover, which is not true.”
She added that Mathew also threatened to shoot her, but a civilian helped her escape from the police station.
Osun Police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the matter is under investigation and disciplinary action would be taken, if it was established Mathew actually harassed and assaulted her.
