Arsenal are unbending in their quest to land the Premier League title this season and coach Mikel Arteta admitted that they have Manchester City for rivals.
Central defender Gabriel scored after helping a looping shot by Bukayo Saka into the net at Stamford Bridge in the 63rd minute and despite Chelsea’s fight back attempt, the Gunners held on for all three points that sent them back to the top of the Premier League table.
When asked if he was in a title race with City, Arteta said: “We are today. But in football, today and tomorrow is very different.
“So let’s enjoy time. Just look at the last six years, what Manchester City have done. With the best manager in the world, the best team in the world.
“They have shown it consistently in every single competition. We have to be very, very respectful of that. We are getting much better as a team and competing much better. We are getting really good results right now, but this is a long time.”
Speaking on the loss Chelsea coach Graham Potter admits Arsenal were “the better team”.
“We played against a team in a really good moment, a confident team and you can see the points they have so credit to them.
“The boys gave everything, it was huffing and puffing but missed that last bit. The goal was disappointing, but overall they deserved it. Arsenal are in a good moment and have been working together for a long time with a good understanding of what they want to do.
“We lacked a bit of quality. The effort was there, we were just beaten by the better team. It was not a great goal from our perspective.
“It’s an indication of where we are and what we need to do better. Mikel Arteta has done a good job, they are in a good place and we’re slightly different.”
