Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot be present for political debates as his ‘busy and hectic’ campaign makes it difficult to make himself available, the All Progressives Congress Party has said.
Tinubu and the Peoples Democratic Party candidate Atiku Abubakar were absent from Sunday’s presidential debate organised by Arise TV. In a statement signed by Festus Keyamo the APC campaign spokesman, the Tinubu has no intention of honouring such radio and TV debates.
Rather according to the statement Tinubu would continue with town hall meetings and interactions with groups around the country.
“We urge all our party structures and supporters at the grassroots to continue to organise town hall meetings to educate Nigerians on the Action Plan of our candidate,” the statement noted.
Meanwhile, Labour Party candidate Peter Obi has vowed not to attend any debate that would have Tinubu and Atiku present.
According to Mr Doyin Okukpe the Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation director-general, Obi will not debate with representatives or running mates of his rival in the 2023 presidential election.
In Sunday’s debate only Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian People’s Party, Kola Abiola of the Peoples Redemption Party. PDP running mate and Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa stood in for Atiku.
