Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua said he is open to fighting Deontay Wilder next year.
Joshua lost his belts after two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, while Wilder lost his WBC belt to Tyson Fury. But the ‘Bronze Bomber’ who returned to the ring last month wants a bout in Joshua somewhere in Africa as they both look to revive their boxing career.
“I think now, he is on a resurgence. I think he is realising that he has got three years left, so he wants to kind of tick off his hit list. Yeah, it will happen now, he’s more than ready now. Why not?” Joshua said
“When I’m ready to ride again I’ll ride out proper, we’ll ride until the wheels fall off,” the boxer said. “I’ve got myself a timeframe, a duration, I got a hitlist and we’ll rock and roll. Everyone’s an option, even that bin man over there’s an option!”
He said he would return to the ring in March adding that talks between him and Fury for a fight didn’t materialise because of disagreements on dates.
“Deadlines weren’t met. Simplistic forms, deadlines weren’t met,” he explained.
“Fury wanted to fight on a certain date and when you’re dealing with a situation that’s so big, it’s not a simple fight, it’s a big fight.
“I could go into further detail, but basically, it probably did need a little bit more time. The deadline he set for someone of my capacity wasn’t fit for the date he had in mind and it didn’t work out.”
