Cameroon football legend Samuel Eto’o has predicted the final of the 2022 World Cup match would be contested by Morocco and Cameroon.
The 2022 World Cup starts on Sunday with host Qatar taking on Ecuador, while Senegal and Netherlands will play the other group A match.
Eto’o said that African countries will spring surprises in the Qatar, saying that all four African countries can reach the quarterfinal.
Asked if could recognise his bias, Eto’o doubled down to stick by his bizarre prediction, he said: “Africa has always had the potential to achieve a successful World Cup, but we haven’t always shown our best face up to now.
“During the years, African teams have acquired more and more experience, and I think they’re ready not only to participate in a World Cup, but also to win it. Cameroon will win the World Cup final against Morocco.”
The former Barcelona, Chelsea, Inter and Everton ace, 41, racked up over 100 appearances for Cameroon after making his World Cup debut in 1998 – as the tournament’s youngest participant that year. Finding the net 56 times at international level, Eto’o is his country’s all-time top goalscorer and represented the Indomitable Lions at four World Cup finals, though Cameroon never made it out of the group stages.
