Famous Nigerian gospel act Sammie Okposo slumped and died in Abuja Friday morning leaving friends and family in shock and disbelief. The previous week he was treated for exhaustion after he returned from the UK where he had performed in a concert. Fellow gospel artists Buchi Atuonwu and Rightousman Irabor revealed their shock at the sudden death of Mr. Okposo who they worked in their growing up days. Also pouring out their condolences were comedian Lepacious Bose who wrote on Instagram, “No! Nooo!! I refuse to accept this report. Lord, please no.” Actress Empress Njamah “Sammy why? Why? Answer me. This cut is too DEEP. So many questions that need answers. “After calling to pray for me on my birthday, you didn’t tell me it was the last time we will speak. REST IN PEACE @sammieokposo.”
Okpose put Nigerian contemporary gospel music into the front burner back in the early 2000s with his monster hit ‘Jesus I thank you wellu wellu.” He followed up with some other hits and remained relevant in that genre. He was scheduled to be in Calabar for the Outpouring Assembly International music concert starting today with fellow artists, Eben, Chuks Praise, Joy Favour, and Victor Edet.
