The gold medals of the discus and shot put throws have been signed, sealed and delivered to Delta at the 2021 National Sports Festival which began Wednesday in Asaba, Delta State.
African and commonwealth champions in the men and women categories, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and Chioma Onyekwere are expected to compete at the festival when the athletics events begin next Tuesday. Enekwechi is the reigning champion from Edo 2021 and according to Delta State Sports Commission chairman Tonobok Okowa, the two athletes have signed to wear the colours of the Delta.
“Those are the only two we are expecting from the USA,” said Okowa
“We would have loved to have others too, but you know this is the build season for some and also some others have been tied down with school work.
“But we have done our own preparations and are ready to compete and win. For me it would have been good if other States had quality athletes too, so that the competition for the medals would be intense, we don’t want to win too easily.”
