Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo is expected to declare the National Sports Festival open Wednesday in Asaba and over 11,000 athletes will begin the chase for medals in the ten-day sports contest.
According to Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youths and Sports, the competition will expose a new set of athletes that will compete favourably with their counterparts globally.
“I am optimistic that at the end of the competition, budding talents will emerge and the country will witness more podium performances through them in subsequent global competitions,” he said
At the flag hoisting ceremony held on Tuesday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, the chairman of the LOC, chief Patrick Ukah tasked the athletes to avoid the use of drugs throughout the duration of the Games.
The quality of facilities provided by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the Games was the major talking point for athletes and officials yesterday at the stadium.
