Argentina super star Lionel Messi did not train with the rest of the team on Friday and it lead to speculation is nursing an injury ahead of the crucial final against France on Sunday. But goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez dismissed such speculations saying that Messi is on track to deliver his first ever World Cup trophy and also aim to be the highest goal scorer. “No, no [he’s not injured],” Martinez said. “We played 120 minutes against Holland, it was a hard game for him but you can see he wants to finish every game. “Physically he’s really good and he’s man of the match every game.” Messi, with five goals and three assists, is aiming to win the World Cup trophy to crown his soccer career. He has played in five World Cup, has not put his hands on the title. Messi is locked in a battle with French star Kylian Mbappe for the Golden Boot as both men have scored 5 goals so far. France’s Olivier Giroud and Argentina’s Julien Alvarez are also in the mix, having netted 4 goals respectively.
He was speaking after a Fifa Council meeting in Qatar on Friday and before this weekend’s final two games of this year’s World Cup, the first to be held in the Middle East.
