Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele failed to appear before the House of Representatives to explain his new cash policy, instead he asked for a new convenient date to appear. Edwin Adamu who is deputy governor in charge of corporate services wrote to the House of Rep members that Emefiele could not appear this week, because he is currently outside the country on duty. “Regrettably, the governor is unavailable to brief the House of Representatives at this time, because he has other scheduled official engagements he is currently addressing abroad.” Accordingly, he has requested that we respectively convey his inability to honour this invitation on the rescheduled date.” The governor regrets this and will contact the House of Representatives as soon as he returns to the country from his official assignment,” the letter read in part.” House speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, noted that this was the second time Emefiele has balked at appearing before the house. Adding Emefiele must brief the house of his assignment outside the country for two weeks.
