Embattled former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu ,has been denied bail by the Central Criminal Court, London. The Court also known as Old Bailey said in its ruling, Senator Ekweremadu who has been standing trial since August 2022 for alleged organ harvesting is a flight risk hence his bail was denied. His defence lawyer argued that his client has been given guarantee by the Nigeria high commission, which also suggested that he wears an electronic brace to monitor his movements. He also argued that his wife and sick daughter are also in London and he couldn’t abandon them.
However, the defense insisted that Ekweremadu can flee to a different country than Nigeria if he is granted bail. The trial Judge said, “I am entirely satisfied there remains a flight risk,” noting that bail would not make much difference “as the trial is just over a month away.”
