The Athletics Federation of Nigeria kicks off the 2023 season this weekend in Jalingo, with the maiden National Cross Country race. While there in Taraba State, the AFN congress will meet to deliberate and make good the season’s programme of activities as required by the federation’s constitution. Besides, this is in line with the World Athletics directives that all member federations must harmonize their season programmes and send to it.“ We have already sent a tentative progamme to the WA and we can always make additions, if there is a need to do so,” said the AFN technical director, Samuel Onikeku.
The WA pointed out to member federations that failure to make their programmes available would automatically invalidate the events and the performances achieved in them by the athletes. Meanwhile, veteran coach and sports administrator Seigha Porbeni said the AFN will strive to achieve balance as they tackle the programme of activities. “This year is loaded with events, we have the African U-18 and U20 in Zambia in April, there is the African Games and World Championships. “So we working to get the season going as and get our athletes prepared,” said coach Seigha Porbeni
