The Athletics Federation of Nigeria congress billed for Jalingo has been jettisoned, but it would hold Saturday in Abuja instead. AFN members and States Athletics Association chairmen refused to proceed to Jalingo, Taraba State because of fear of being kidnapped by gunmen. The 10km road race also billed the same venue has totally been cancelled as the athletes would now concentrate for the Lagos City Access Bank Marathon. “Nobody wanted to go to Taraba because of the security situation,” said a member of the AFN “As it stands, the 10km road race in Jalingo has also been cancelled it would not hold. The athletes are preparing for the Lagos marathon instead.”
Some of the major agenda for the congress to deliberate upon, including rectification of the 2023 season calendar of activities and constitutional review adaptation. “There was a committee set up to review the AFN constitution following the Gusau impasse; the congress would be looking at the report and deliberate on it.”
