Joe Aribo’s sojourn in the Premier League is good as gone; his club Southampton are looking to off-load him. The Super Eagles midfielder has lost his spot in the squad, under new coach Nathan Jones. Aribo was not even on the bench in their last four games as Southampton battled relegation. Aribo, in his first season under coach Ralph Hasenhuttl, started 10 out of his first 14 games on the south coast and proved to be a key performer during some impressive early-season displays. However, things have quickly fallen apart for the playmaker since Jones’ arrival.
Jones has brought in Charly Alcaraz arriving from Argentinian side Racing Club this month and immediately taking Aribo’s spot in the starting line-up. Jones has openly admitted he wants to move on some of his fringe players and add before the window slams shut. “Look, what we have to do is keep moving everyone forward. “What we can’t do is literally just hold a load of players and keep them. Because then you have passengers and passengers become problematic in the end. So you can’t do that. We want a small tight squad but we need certain things in the squad.
