Adeleke vows to fight tribunal ruling sacking as Osun governor

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, said Friday’s ruling by the electoral tribunal removing him as governor elect is a miscarriage of justice and has vowed to go the whole hog to fight the judgement. Adeleke, was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on July 16 2022, beating his All Progressive Congress counterpart, Gboyega Oyetola. Adeleke was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, in a 2-1 majority judgement read by the Chairman, Justice Tertse Kume, submitted that Oyetola scored the majority of the lawful votes of 314,931 against Adeleke’s 219,666, adding that there was over-voting in some polling units which were in favour of Adeleke. Justice Kume declared that INEC did not comply substantially with the Constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act. A statement signed by Adeleke’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, urged the people of Osun to remain calm saying: This is a miscarriage of justice and an unfair interpretation against the will of the majority of voters. “I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done,” he added. “Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate”, the statement added.
