Group gives Tinubu credit for new naira notes deadline extension

A group “Arewa4Asiwaju said All Progressive Congress candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be given credit for the new naira notes deadline extension. The Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele announced that the January 31 date for the swap of the old notes has now been moved to February 10 to give Nigerians more time to bring in their old notes. This was after calls from many Nigerians who could not lay their hands on the new notes. But according to the “Arewa4Asiwaju” group it was Tinubu’s outburst during a campaign stop in Abeokuta that moved the Presidency and the CBN to act on the extension. The group’s North-Central Coordinator, Aliyu Musa Pass, the group said in a statement: “Tinubu’s ‘Abeokuta declaration compelled the Federal Government to extend the deadline to February 10 and saved the nation from going up in flames, as consequence of the raging public anger that pervaded the atmosphere before the sudden 10 days extension.” “Nigerians certainly owe Tinubu immense gratitude for stepping in and risking everything to change the obviously bad situation occasioned by the initial January 31st deadline.” “Whether anyone wants to believe it or not, it is the courageous sagacity displayed by Tinubu that invariably saved the Nigerian commoner from suffering the pains of the initial timeline set by the Federal Government for the unpopular new currency swap. “And by that singular action, Tinubu also saved the nation from going up in flames as a consequence of the raging public anger that pervaded the atmosphere before the sudden 10 days extension. “Apparently rattled, the President invited Asiwaju to Daura where the man stood his ground insisting the policy was unnecessary, unpopular and would only harm the common man and lead to greater conflict.”
