Police in Rome came to the rescue of Roma striker Nicolo Zaniolo whose residence was besieged by a group of die hard Roma fans. The fans reportedly confronted Nicolo Zaniolo at his home in the Casal Palocco area of Rome, after Roma lost to Napoli in Sunday’s Serie A match. He was forced to call the police, according to Football Italia. The Italian forward was allegedly chased away by the angry fans and called the police for assistance. Officers were sent to the scene and the ultras quickly dispersed, leaving a shaken Zaniolo with his father. The 23-year-old Italian forward angered the Giallorossi and their supporters after trying to force through a move away from the club this month, only to turn around and reject a concrete offer from Bournemouth. Multiple banners insulting Zaniolo have already cropped up around Rome and the tension is growing palpable.
The situation is growing increasingly toxic and it only seems like a matter of time before Zaniolo leaves Roma, although he may have to wait until the summer after rejecting Bournemouth’s offer.
