APC, PDP clash over Kano youths attack on Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari’s chopper and convoy were pelted with stones by protesting Kano youths on Monday when he visited the State to commission some projects. The youths dared the heavy security presence on the routes leading to project sites and there was angry confrontation, but the youths dispersed when the security agents started shooting into the air. While the Peoples Democratic Party condemned the incident and blamed the All Progressives Congress for unleashing thugs to embarrass the President, the APC denied there was ever any attack on Buhari and his convoy. PDP national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said in a statement that the attack was a treasonable felony and a sacrilegious assault on national sovereignty. He said the APC campaign council was out to humiliate the President. “Our party is alarmed that this attack is part of APC presidential candidate’s alleged plot to undermine the presidency, cause confusion, trigger violence in the country, disrupt the conduct of the 2023 general election and derail our democracy, having realised that he cannot win in a peaceful, free and fair electoral process. “It should be noted that the APC presidential candidate has been displaying open aversion and making inciting statements against President Buhari since Mr. President’s declaration, in line with democratic best practice all over the world that, Nigerians should freely vote for any candidate and party of their choice in the 2023 general election “It is now clearer why the APC presidential candidate brazenly established a militia code-named “the Jagaban Army” which is designed to undermine our national security, unleash violence on institutions of democracy and disrupt the electoral process.” But speaking on the accusations, the APC campaign director for media and publicity, Bayo Onanuga, said the attack on Buhari was ‘fake news’ from PDP. “We are not surprised to read of the imaginary attack on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria being peddled by the PDP since the party has nothing tangible to tell Nigerians from its crumbling presidential campaign. “This so-called attack on Buhari must have happened only in the fertile imagination of the PDP National Publicity Secretary. “Buhari was warmly received in Kano State by the good people and government of the state where he commissioned eight hugely impactful projects.”
