Paul Onuachu has fulfilled his long dream of playing in the English Premier League by signing for Southampton and manager Nathan Jones says his coming would help the club avoid the drop. Bottom placed Southampton are banking on Onuachu to use his presence to make the difference in their attacking options. Onuachu signed a three-year contract reported to have cost the Saints €20m. “He’s a handful to play against, has got a tremendous record throughout his career and he’s also someone who brings great experience with him, so he’ll be a really positive addition to the squad,” Jones told the club’s official website. Standing at 6ft 7in striker scored 17 goals from 22 appearances for Genk this season and 85 goals from 134 matches in total for the Belgian club. Onuachu has played sparingly for the Super Eagles scoring 3 goals from 16 games.
Southampton also signed Ghana’s Kamaldeen Sulemana from Rennes. Sulemana’s arrival at Southampton is subject to a work permit and international clearance. The 20-year-old Ghana winger who signed a four-and-a-half-year deal has played 91 times in his career so far for Rennes and Nordsjaelland, scoring 20 goals and providing 13 assists. He has also been capped 15 times by Ghana and featured twice in the FIFA World Cup 2022 finals. “He’s at a stage in his career where we feel he can help us in the immediate term, but also continue to grow and develop further into the future,” manager Nathan Jones told the club’s official website.
