Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon chief executive, Joyce Bozimo has praised the efforts of Deborah Pam at the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon concluded last Saturday. Pam, a veteran long distance runner took a two-year break to give birth to her son and she made a strong comeback at the Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon last December, beating the women to collect the N1m top prize. Her husband Emmanuel Gyan also won the men’s race. Last Saturday in Lagos, Pam again showed she was in great form when she topped the home-based runners in the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon; she was 10th in the overall race featuring the more advanced Ethiopian and Kenyan runners. She returned the time of 2.49.33 to beat Elizbeth Nuhu and Dimatu Yohana who posted 3.00.20 and 3.02.12 respectively in the 42km race. “It is a delight seeing Pam coming first among the Nigerian based runners. She warmed up for the race here at the Warri Effurun Peace Marathon,” said Mrs. Bozimo “You also had Adamu Shehu Muazu coming second in the men’s race, these are athletes who have made the race in Warri so exciting.”
She added that preparations are already in line for the 2023 race. “We already doing ground work for this year’s race and we are hoping for a better outing. “Of course we have already paid the athletes their prize money for the 2022 race, and we are going to ensure prompt payment like always.”
