Newcastle coach Eddie Howe said he was deeply concerned about Christian Atsu, the Ghana player who is still missing after the massive earthquake in Turkey. Five days after the disaster the former Black Stars player is still unaccounted for and Howe said he is hoping for good news that he would survive. Over 20,000 people are believed to have been killed in Turkey and Syria as a result of the quakes, which struck in the early hours of Monday morning and have caused serious damage to life and property in both countries.
“It’s hugely worrying,” said Howe. “I really, really enjoyed working with Christian, he’s a great lad and a great player. Our thoughts are with him and his family. “We hope for good news. We’re really concerned for his welfare. It’s been difficult because there have been conflicting stories about his whereabouts. I can’t imagine how his family is feeling. From the bottom of our hearts, we wish him well and hope for a positive ending.”
