As controversy rages following the death of 12 year-old Whitney Adeniran during interhouse sports of Chrisland School Ikeja, Actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has weighed in and urged the school management to make public the cause of the death. Though the school management has submitted that Miss Adeniran slumped and died at the Agege Stadium during the Inter-house Sports of suspected cardiac arrest, the girl’s mother in a social media video disputed the claim, saying that her daughter was not suffering any health complications. She insisted that her child was electrocuted. Mercy Johnson commented on her social media page, she said: “I’m responding to the cries of a mother going through the worst pain ever. A mother who wants to know how her child died so suddenly. @bam babycity “No parent deserves this, no one. Since I saw this heartbreaking video this morning, I’ve called to plead with the school @chrislandinsta to do as Whitney’s mum has cried for and release the full details of what happened to her daughter. “We are all waiting.”
Meanwhile the Lagos State government has shut down the school temporarily to investigate the cause of Miss Adeniran’s death. “We also note the impact of this unfortunate event on family, friends and acquaintances of Whytney and call for calm as we assure that no effort will be spared in investigating the incident,” said a statement signed by Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo.
