Nigeria’s Super Falcons will take part in an invitational tournament in Turkey in April, 2023. The tournament will serve as part of the team’s preparatory programme ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The nine time African champions are currently in Mexico for a four-Nation invitational tourney which is billed for February 15-21. The four participating nations are; Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia and Nigeria. This deliberate attempt is to make the Super Falcons have the best outing at the World Cup following their adequate preparations. Randy Waldrum’s side will take on hosts Mexico in their first game in the competition on Wednesday night. The preparatory tournament in Turkey was made known in a communiqué released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after their board meeting on Monday It reads, “With commendations for world football -governing body, FIFA for its greater attention, interest and commitment of funds to women’s football, the Executive Committee expressed delight that Nigeria will be participating in the Four-Nation Revelation Cup Tournament holding in Leon, Mexico 15th -21st February 2023.
It praised the wisdom behind getting the Super Falcons into the preparatory tourney ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand this summer, noting that the other three participating nations, viz Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia are also World Cup-bound. It was also pleased that the Falcons will be participating in another preparatory tournament in Turkey in April. ” The Super Falcons are without a win in their last five games. They have been drawn in the same group with hosts Australia, Canada and Republic of Ireland in Group B of the World Cup.
