Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on Nigerians not to destroy public and private property as they protest the new naira notes scarcity.
Mr. Obi told his supporters and likely voters to vent their anger instead by voting out bad governance in the February 25 general elections to elect credible leadership that will steer the ship of the country in the right direction. “There have been reported pockets of skirmishes in Benin City and other places arising from the recent scarcity of cash. I plead with Nigerians to be patient; help is coming. The suffering and harsh economic realities have brought untold anger on the people. “May we, for the nation, take such anger to the polls on February 25. That is the only way to end the present suffering,” Mr Obi said.
There have been protests in Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Delta and Edo State where four persons lost their lives on Tuesday following the hardship caused by the Central Bank of Nigeria cash swap policy. There is widespread scarcity of the new naira notes and banks are not loading their ATMs to dispense the old notes or the new notes.
