Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum, said it was painful the way his team lost its opening game of the Revelation Cup on-going in Mexico, but the girls will surely learn from their mistakes ahead of the FIFA Women World Cup in Austria and New Zealand. The nine-time African champions conceded a late goal in their match against Mexico, it was their sixth straight loss in all competitions. Coach Waldrum said: “It’s learning process for us. It was an opportunity to try new things…new ideas and new tactics. “We started the game strongly though they dominated the last 20 minutes of the first half. “It’s always disappointing when you concede late in any game. We will learn from this defeat and prepare for our next game.”
Also media officer for the team Oluchi Tobechukwu said the team will bounce back from the defeat and make a good showing at the world cup. “It was an impressive and spirited play by Ashleigh Plumptre and an upcoming star,” she said. “Determined Captain of the U20 team, Tosin Demehin, Oluwatosin Blessing and Jennifer Onyi Echegini were also impressive. “Coach Randy is test running players in different positions to nick a Winning first eleven ahead of the world cup. “The Player of the match for me is Chiamaka Nnadozie. It could have been a heavy scoreline. Good lessons learnt as this is not a world cup match. The combination of Dimehin and Ohale at the rear was encouraging.” The Super Falcons will be facing Columbia on Saturday in their second match of the tournament, before meeting Costa Rica on Tuesday.
